Larry and Woody
Well I’m sure a lot of you have already heard the news that Larry will be starring in Woody Allen’s next, currently untitled feature. He will star alongside actress, Evan Rachel Wood. The film will also mark Woody’s return to New York after shooting his last film in Spain, and the previous three in London. Nothing about the plot or anything else is known except that it will be a comedy (obviously).
I’ve long been a fan of Woody’s, although his most recent work (after Deconstructing Harry) has left a little to be desired. But the pairing of these two neurotic masters of comedy really has me excited. Some of you might be surprised that this is not the first time the two have worked together. Larry had small parts in Allen’s Radio Days (1987) and New York Stories (1989). I’ve been meaning to dig up copies of these two films and once I have I’ll post some clips of Larry “acting” before Curb.
I just hope LD will also be involved in writing this movie. To be honest I don’t think that LD is such an amazing actor. He is convincing enough (but I still think Jason Alexander played the better LD) but his magic is in writing these dialogs.
If they play their cards right this could be huge.
Woody Allen really is over rated. His resume of films leaves much to be desired, presumably peaking during his early career. His inability to budge from the romantic comedy genre, as well as the repetitious, inflexability of his character leave much to be desired.
Not nearly as funny as Larry David is, Woody is perhaps most famous for his perverse sexual life, and calling him a “master of comedy” is a bit like calling Greg Norman a “master of golf”. Sure he won an open, but he fails to deliver the consistantcy demanded of the true greats.
wank wank wank wank
