Larry David: “A Sage for Our Time” or “The New Woody Allen”?
No real news to report. Here are a couple of articles that may whet your appetite for Larry’s new movie.
“A Sage for Our Time” – Adam Bryant, The New York Times. (Thanks to Tommy for sending me this article).
“So Who’s the New Woody Allen” – Dre, Film.com.
Regarding that second article, I don’t believe that Woody Allen and Larry are so similar that it would be fair to label Larry the “new Woody Allen”. What the author of that article means as I understand it is that Larry is taking on the role that Woody has previously cast himself as. That is, the older man romantically involved with the much younger and beautiful girl, in this case played by Evan Rachel Wood. On a side note, I recently saw Evan Rachel Wood in King of California with Michael Douglas and she was wonderful. Also I think the author makes a great observation:
The real hook of this project is the Woody Allen-Larry David dynamic. Both are very smart comedians that should compliment each other well. David excels at awkward humor and Allen has always been, well, awkward.
