Larry tries to do Auntie Rae a favor, but ends up offending her instead. Meanwhile, Jeff’s stay at the hospital to get a “snore job” opens up a new opportunity for Larry, who takes full advantage of it in Episode 58: “The N Word.”
Update: I really enjoyed this episode. What I most liked about it was the way the episode was constructed. One thing about the season so far that I’d noticed, was that while most episodes remained very, very funny, the brilliant way that Larry crafts and interwieves different ideas through his episodic storylines was not so evident. This episode put to bed any fears that Larry had lost this aspect of his genius. The way he interwove his erectile problems, bald discrimination, the use of “N word, and his dating a doctor was brilliant and reminded me of episodes like season 2’s The Doll. Admittedly, the ending was a little weak but the episode as a whole was just hilarious. I’m also eagerly awaitng this week’s The Psychiatrist guest-starring Steve Coogan.
Shelley Berman, the veteran comedian who plays Larry’s father in Curb Your Enthusiasm, won a Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Boston Comedy Festival. At 81, he also won the first Grammy for a non-music record and maintains he’s not done yet. Have a read of these couple (1 & 2) of articles about one of Curb’s funniest supporting cast members.
TMZ.com caught Larry at a restuarant, Mr. Chow, to film him basically doing nothing but stand around. To be honest I don’t understand how people can visit such sites and watch their 30second clips of celebrities walking to and from their cars. Nonetheless this video is worth mentioning as it gives another classic LD quote,
“Keep the cameras on me because I’m going to leave an enormous tip.”
On October 5th Larry talked to Steve Sommers on WFAN. You can listen to fairly lengthy interview on the site, or download it directly. Larry talks sports, as well as relaying his now famous story about quitting his job at Saturday Night Live, only to return the next Monday as if nothing had happened and how it became the basis for an episode of Seinfeld. An enjoyable half hour and special thanks to Phil for emailing me about this.
MSNBC has a Q&A with Susie Essman that I’m sure many of you will enjoy reading. She talks at length about Curb, incluidng her favourite episode:
My favorite Susie Greene episode is probably “The Doll.” My favorite phrase from that episode was, “Get me the f****** head.”
Classic. Susie really does hold claim to some of the best lines of the show, including this seasons zinger “revenge masturbatory payback”. Anyhow, an interesting read so enjoy!
Larry tests the limits of sick sex. Meanwhile, Loretta and Leon’s job prospects are burned by a slow toaster, and Larry befriends an exterminator, to a deaf woman’s regret, in Episode 56: The Rat Dog.
I really enjoyed this episode, much more than the previous one (episode 5) where I felt Larry recycled a couple previous ideas, and really crow-barred in some plot elements. This episode however really reminded of the Curb of old. Larry’s attempts to communicate with a deaf person, his “date” with an exterminator, and the hilarity of a cell phone mix-up, all culminated with the brilliantly farcical ending we haven’t seen too much this season. Great ep though, interested to hear your thoughts.
I seems others agree with me, TVSquad Jonathon Toomy saying it is the best of the season so far.
And remember, you can’t pause toast.
Larry regrets getting Richard Lewis’ girlfriend Cha Cha a job near the office bathroom. Meanwhile, a waiter is doomed by a doggy-bag dispute, and Larry proves inept at “talking lefty” in Episode 54: The Lefty Call.
Episode 10 is titled, The Bat Mitzvah. Sorry there haven’t been many updates in the last week, I’ve been quite busy lately. There will be a new poll starting tomorrow (I haven’t quite decided on one, so if you have ideas let me know).
